The Vredeman de Vries Prize is an annual award named after Hans Vredeman de Vries. One year it honors architecture, the next year design—making it a biennial recognition in each category. The prize was established in 2000 by the Dutch province of Friesland and is supported by ARK (Center for Architecture and Spatial Quality), Keunstwurk, and Hûs en Hiem.
This year, we are especially proud: our project Nijkleaster Monastry Hijlaard has won the Vredeman de Vries Architecture Prize 2025!
As project manager and site supervisor, Stevens Van Dijck guided Stichting Nijkleaster through every step—from drafting the program of requirements, investment and operating budgets, and architect selection, to design, tendering, and construction supervision.
The result? A remarkable project where spirituality, mienskip (community), and contemporary architecture come together beautifully. An inspiring collaboration that shows how craftsmanship and vision reinforce each other.
