In addition to winning the NRP Gulden Feniks 2025, De Nederlandsche Bank has been awarded the Geurt Brinkgreve Award 2025 for the impressive renovation of its iconic building at Frederiksplein. This prestigious prize honors projects that breathe new life into heritage while enriching the city of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n
At the start of 2025, DNB opened the doors of its renewed building: a place for social connection. For example, there is De Nieuwe Schatkamer<\/em>, where everyone is welcome for a lecture, a cup of coffee, or a quiet place to work. From spring 2025 onwards, the city garden will also provide a safe space for homeless people to store their belongings.<\/p>\n Sustainability was at the heart of the renovation. Everything that was still in good condition was reused: from concrete and wooden ceilings to furniture. In addition, renewable energy sources and energy-efficient installations were added\u2014with an eye on the future and respect for the original design by architect Duintjer.<\/p>\n The jury praises the transformation into an open, inviting, and leading building in the city center. Residents, visitors, and school classes can drop in for coffee, art, or to enjoy the garden. The inner garden is accessible during the day, and along the Singelgracht a terrace has been created that makes a walk along the water possible. A special feature was the dismantling of the round tower, which will be rebuilt elsewhere\u2014an example of sustainable demolition with great attention to reuse.<\/p>\n The design was created by Mecanoo, and the execution carried out by SPIE. On December 16, the winning client and architect received a special artwork by artist Sanja Medic from Alderman Van Weyenberg in the Zuiderkerk.<\/p>\n Stevens Van Dijck, together with LSA, was responsible for construction project management.
