Binnenhof Den Haag

Development

The renovation of the Binnenhof, the political heart of the Netherlands, is one of the most remarkable and widely discussed projects in the country. With a passionate commitment to preserving and restoring the historical splendor of the Binnenhof, this exceptional renovation project focuses on thorough architectural and technical interventions.

The renovation addresses a range of challenges, including (fire) safety, wood rot, leaking roofs, and the integration of modern installations such as climate control, security systems, elevators, and ICT. Functional improvements are also being implemented, such as optimizing entrances to better accommodate the large numbers of staff and visitors.

Stevens Van Dijck is responsible for construction management and quality inspections for the House of Representatives section of the Binnenhof complex.

Building function

At the Binnenhof in The Hague, the Senate (Eerste Kamer), the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer), the Council of State, and the Ministry of General Affairs are located. The complex consists of approximately 4,000 rooms, spaces, chambers, halls, corridors, attics, and cellars. The total floor area is nearly 90,000 m². The buildings are predominantly highly monumental.

Details

The Binnenhof is the oldest parliamentary building in the world still in use. Since its initial construction in the 13th century, the Binnenhof has undergone continuous additions, demolitions, and renovations. The renovation of the Binnenhof ensures the preservation of 800 years of cultural heritage. After the renovation, the users of the Binnenhof will once again be able to work in a responsible, sustainable, and modern way.
