The construction of the new fire station in Abcoude is progressing according to schedule. On Wednesday, December 4, an important milestone was reached: the highest point of the new building. The fire station, located on Burgemeester Des Tombeweg near the carpool area at the entrance of Abcoude, is taking shape more and more.
Mayor Maarten Divendal and station commander Rijk van den Dikkenberg marked the occasion by hoisting flags at the highest point of the station.
The new fire station is designed with sustainability and functionality in mind. There is more space for vehicles, and volunteers will have separate changing rooms and segregated sanitary facilities. An outdoor training area is also available. A unique feature of the building is that the instruction room and offices are located beneath the vehicle bay. As a result, the building remains relatively low, with a height of only 8 meters above ground level.
Jous Architecten has cleverly utilized the existing embankment in the design. The construction is being carried out by Mulckhuyse Construction under a UAV-GC contract.
